In August 2025, Full House Theatre Productions brought the beloved world of Oz to the Atterbury Theatre with a vibrant, modern twist. Under the creative leadership of Deirdre van Schalkwyk, this production was uniquely designed to be accessible to everyone—featuring special morning performances that allowed school groups and our youngest theater-goers to experience the magic of the stage.
What made this version truly special was its "Freshly South African" pulse. By subtly weaving African elements into the classic story, we created a relatable, one-of-a-kind interpretation that was as visually stunning as it was emotionally resonant. With a masterclass in lighting, costume design, and innovative projections, the Atterbury was transformed into a technicolor dreamscape. A Powerhouse Cast The production boasted a rare blend of youthful energy and academic prestige. Leading the way was 16-year-old Monja du Plessis, who delivered a professional and heart-wrenching performance as Dorothy. She was supported by a cast of specialists, many of whom hold Master’s and Doctoral degrees in the performing arts. From the youngest star, YouTube sensation Isaaca Ko as a scene-stealing Toto, to Deirdre van Schalkwyk herself as a "masterfully wicked" Witch, the stage was overflowing with talent. Audiences were swept away by timeless classics including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” and “If I Were King of the Forest.”
